The Austrian architecture office Ortner & Ortner Baukunst won the international competition in 2008 and they instructed me to design the facade and to develop an art-concept for the building.

The original situation was a granary building. Ortner & Ortner moved the roof from the historical granary 65m higher and formed a tower which contains the archive material. I created an ornamentical brick facade which also covers the roof. On the roof the bricks are strung on stainless steel pipes.

The building was awarded the Baltasar Neumann Prize in 2014. Quote from the jury report:

Für die Jury herausragend ist einerseits der behutsame Umgang mit dem denkmalgeschützten Speichergebäude, um bestehende Qualitäten durch das Neue zu erhalten. Dazu gehört auch die harmonische Anpassung des Turms mit feiner Klinker-Reliefierung an die alte Klinkerstruktur-Ornamentik.
